Children’s Drama Program - Summer 2024

Location: The Park La Brea Activities Center, 475 S. Curson West

Fun with Drama - 1 Week Program, meets for one week, Monday-Friday

In this enjoyable drama class, we’ll discover movement and voice for the stage, while experimenting with feelings and universal gesture and expression.  We’ll read enchanting, exciting stories from all over the globe, as we explore character development and themes.  Discover mythical creatures, animals, wizards and very human characters, too!  Develop confidence, stage presence and your own sense of theatrical creativity as you learn to collaborate with your partners and express your inner actor through fun games and exercises.

Play Creation - 2 Week Program, meets for two weeks, Monday-Friday

Let’s develop and adapt a tale or fable and bring it to life for our family and friends! Together, we’ll study and analyze a story as we learn to identify characters, feelings, plot twists and turns and uncover the moral of the story and how it relates to our lives while creating our own play.  We’ll learn some grounding and focusing exercises and some fun theater games too, to help us with character development and theatrical expression. Students will learn lines and how to follow stage directions.  This class promotes communication, collaboration, self-confidence and creativity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child has no theater experience; which class would you recommend?

Both classes are open to all levels, from the beginner to the more seasoned actor.

What is the class size?

Classes will be limited to 8-10 students in order to give students a full, nurturing environment.

My child is not within the determined age group.  Can they still take the class?

If your child is within three months of the age group, either three months younger, or three months older, they may enroll.  Classes are designed for a specific age group.

Can my child take both the Fun with Drama and Play Creation classes?

Students can take both classes, but there is no supervised break between classes, so a parent or guardian would have to pick the student up between classes for the full half hour break

Parents/guardians are required to sign in and sign out students at the beginning and end of each class.

Is there a performance at the end of each class?

For the Play Creation classes, there is a performance on the last day of class, at noon.

There are no performances for the Fun with Drama classes.

There is no supervised staff for students after class.  Please promptly pick up your child at the dismissal time. There is a $2.00 per minute fee for late pick ups.

It’s important that students wear loose, comfortable clothing for movement exercises. Please supply your child with water. No snacks are allowed in the classroom space.

For the first 5-10 minutes of each new session, please attend a friendly, short meet and greet where we will go over rules and expectations of the class.
